In 2015, photography took center stage in my creative process. In that period, my photo library has summed to thousands of images. I remember before I rediscovered my interest on the camera, I was feeling very insecure and inhibited about what I was painting, or how I was painting; so, photography has helped keep my itch for being creative.

Going back to those thousands of images, I think it is important not to read into them more than what they are; a means to switch my brain. Looking at my work with a critical eye is something I’ve been working on for years and will continue doing, It is a principle I wish to apply to photography, painting or whatever it is I want to do.

I’m very grateful for the set of tools I now have to practice with the camera. Almost nothing deflates me as much like gear talk. I’m beginning to think the more stuff one gets, the harder it is to work with substance. As a result, I don’t plan to invest in photographic equipment. Rather than upgrading gear, I plan to improve how I resolve challenges.

I understand my creative process wouldn’t get any stronger until I start producing work with substance, and three paths to follow in that direction are consistency, engaging and caring. The first begins with discipline, but for an introvert like me, the remaining two are yet the hardest because they involve social integration and finding a mission. After all, ‘art’ is the result of purpose and intent.
