My first photo shoot with CT fashion artist Vianca Rivera took place at around noon, on a bright sunny day. For our shoot, Vianca contacted makeup artist Bryan Vega who did a subtle but innovative job that accentuated her facial features. I immediately responded to Vianca’s bohemian, minimalistic look; which was on point with our vision for this shoot. I approached Vianca with my camera from as many angles as possible, always making sure to pace myself to avoid overshooting, which is something that’s very important to me these days as I’m pushing myself to get fewer misfires, blurry and redundant shots.
Also, this was my first time shooting portraits using a Canon 50mm 1.4, a lens that's a little tricky to focus with at a normal distance when you have objects between the camera and the focal point. However, having that extra F stop was very reassuring as it allows me to shoot with a faster shutter speed, and now I see how becoming accustomed to a fast 50mm lens will help me become more responsive when shooting environmental, candid portraits.
