On this night photo walk, I was joined by Lorena, who suggested exploring the area and photograph from shop windows and city lighting. Shooting under these conditions is a lot of fun, the lights seem brighter, shadows provide more variety and forces me to slow down and reconsider things like composition or camera settings. Autofocusing at night is nearly impossible, and in many situations, my last resource was to set my lens on manual focus, which is very empowering because it makes me outguess my camera and be OK with not getting an image that’s tack sharp. Photography is not always about having perfect control. Photography is also about making compromises. A little motion blur, grain, under or overexposure wouldn't hurt anybody, so as long as you choose well, any of those technical flaws in some cases may even add refinement to the end result.
