With their book Slant Rhymes, Alex Webb and his Wife Rebecca Norris Webb, share their visual conversations while covering personal and professional photo assignments around the world. To me, holding this book is a fun experience from start to finish. I like how is curated and how the literary content supports their photographic work. Also, the book’s design, (or at least the copy to which I had access that's published by La Fabrica in Madrid Spain), enhances the value to the book by adding to its tactile experience, a sense of craftsmanship with its burlap covers.
Something that stands out in this book is the quality of its visual poetry; how each photograph conveys a narrative and inspires introspection through the use of scale and tonality. If I could take poetic licence and describe my impression with a metaphor, I would say that the photos by Alex Webb speak to me with a strong, resonant voice; while the work of Rebecca Norris Webb excels for its precision with a soft, tender voice that shakes my conscience saying the right thing at the right moment.
